Patrick Reed is officially a free agent. While he expects to sign a new LIV Golf deal, the 2018 Masters champion has already mapped out his backup plan: a direct path back to the PGA
Speaking at a press conference at Emirates Golf Club, the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic winner laid out the hypothetical plan on January 25.
“If I ended up not playing on LIV this year, obviously it would be one of those things that I would be out here playing more on this tour (DP World Tour) and trying to secure one of those spots in the Top 10 and allow myself to get back on the PGA TOUR," he said per ASAP Sports.
Reed stressed that strong results naturally create opportunities, and something he believes has apples at every stage of a golfer's career.

"You play really well in college, that got you sponsors to hopefully playing on tour. And then you play well at Q-School and on tour and that gets you a card on the PGA TOUR and so forth and so forth," added Patrick Reed.
Patrick Reed is a free agent for the 2026 season and has indicated that a return to the PGA Tour remains an option if a new LIV Golf agreement is not completed.

Speaking to the media after winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Reed explained he was still negotiating with LIV Golf.
“We’re still finalizing the [LIV Golf] contract. We’re not complete on that yet,” Reed said in the post-tournament press conference on Sunday.
However, Patrick Reed sounded optimistic about playing at the LIV Golf season opener in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the first week of February. "at the moment, I plan on teeing it up there in Riyadh, and I'd be surprised if we're not," added Reed.
Meanwhile, Reed’s long-standing connection with 4Aces GC continues.
He has competed with the team since joining LIV Golf in 2022 and wore team apparel during his recent victory in Dubai, although he is not officially listed on the roster until a contract is finalized.
Yet, with LIV Golf successfully re-signing the likes of Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, and others, there's hope Reed will sign with LIV Golf. Yet, where do you want to see Patrick Reed play next?
