PGA Tour Built Dustin Johnson’s Legacy, LIV Golf Years Built His Fortune: Career Earning Comparison

Two-time major champion Dustin Johnson earned his PGA Tour card in late 2007 and built a legacy throughout 15 seasons. He competed in 319 events and made 257 cuts, but it took him just four seasons with LIV Golf to build a fortune.
Johnson joined the Saudi-backed PGA Tour rival in 2022 and immediately found success. Johnson’s first victory came at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston in 2022, and he finished first in the individual standings that season. He hasn't slowed down since. So how do the earnings from his two eras stack up?
How Much Dustin Johnson Has Earned With LIV Golf
Starting in 2022, his performances included multiple top-10 results and a first-place finish at Tulsa, where he earned $4,375,000. Including his other tournament payouts and bonuses, Johnson’s total earnings from LIV Golf in 2022 amounted to a whopping $39,603,016.
In 2023, Dustin Johnson had targeted back-to-back individual titles but was overtaken in the standings by Talor Gooch, who recorded three wins that season. On the earnings front, Johnson won the event at Tulsa and earned $4,375,000, and added $1,550,000 from his fifth-place finish in London and $1,165,000 from Adelaide. By the season's end, Johnson earned $11,927,137 from LIV.

Johnson’s 2024 season was highlighted by a victory in Las Vegas, making him the only player to win an individual title in each of the first three LIV seasons, where he won the event and earned $4,375,000, while a T5 finish at Mayakoba added $700,000 to his earnings. He later collected $522,500 across events and a total of $7,293,333.
However 2025 season has a different story. Dustin Johnson had his first year on the tour without an individual win. He recorded the lowest tournament payouts and bonuses, and his earnings for the 2025 season were $6,243,498. Despite a disappointing season, his career LIV earnings amount to $63,326,195 so far.
How Do His PGA Tour Earnings Compare?
Between 2007 and 2008, he earned a combined $1,790,910 in official PGA Tour prize money and $25,000 in bonuses, for a total of $1,815,910 across his first two seasons.
Over the following stretch of his career, from 2009 through 2017, his earnings continued to rise; he earned a combined $39,290,298 in official PGA Tour money along with $1,752,251 in bonuses.
Johnson’s highest PGA Tour single-season payout came in 2020, when he earned a total of $20,837,267, which included $4,869,267 in official prize money and a $15,000,000 FedEx Cup bonus.
Across his remaining PGA Tour tenure through 2022, Dustin Johnson added further prize and bonus earnings before he transitioned to LIV Golf, bringing his cumulative PGA Tour total to $81,619,854, including bonuses.
While Dustin Johnson's LIV Golf earnings are still behind his career PGA Tour purse, it's the time frame that matters. The 41-year-old has earned nearly 81% of his Tour earnings in less than a quarter of the time with LIV Golf.
