PGA Tour golfer withdraws from upcoming events after injury

After one of his best years on Tour, PGA Tour pro Matti Schmid’s breakthrough season ends in one moment. The 28-year-old will be sidelined for months due to an injury, with no timeline for his return.
Schmid racked up four top-10 finishes this season and was building momentum. However, the German revealed news that will end his season.
"I wanted to share some unfortunate news," Schmid wrote on Instagram. "I recently had a fall and broke my elbow.”

Schmid had made it into the top 60 of the FedEx Cup rankings and thus teed off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. However, finishing T47 meant his playoff run would end there.
Now, with the injury, it looks likely that the 28-year-old will be sidelined for months. No official confirmation has been made regarding his return to the competitive scene.
“Because of this, I'll be stepping back from golf for a few months to focus on a full recovery, and I've had to withdraw from my upcoming tournaments,” he added in his Instagram post.
The injury comes as a huge blow for Schmid, who has established himself as a regular on the American circuit.
Schmid’s highlight of the season will certainly be his performance at the PGA Championship in May.
Heading into the final round, he was just two strokes off the lead but eventually had to settle for a T4 finish.
Although last season, the German secured five top-10 finishes, his best major finish at the Aronimink edges that feat.
Schmid will now focus on his recovery just like major champion J.J. Spaun.
Another Tour Pro faces similar setback
J.J Spaun’s season ended in the worst possible fashion.
After qualifying for the season finale, the Tour Championship, the 36-year-old withdrew after six holes due to a shoulder injury.
"I woke up Tuesday morning with like a little sharp pain in my right shoulder blade," Spaun said, as reported by PGA Tour's Paul Hodowanic. "It's happened to me before, but it's never persisted this long."
On top of that, the injury ended his hopes of featuring at the Presidents Cup later this month. US Team captain Brandt Snedeker did not pick the 2025 US Open champion in the 12-player roster.
Spaun experienced the same injury at the Open last year. However, his primary focus now is to assess the lingering issue and not force his way through it.
