Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, popular American club professional Michael Block has found a unique way to showcase his patriotism. It’s safe to say he has stolen some of the spotlight with it.

Nine-time Southern California PGA Player of the Year and the head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Block has his own way of making headlines. This time around, he has done so with his haircut.

Block arrived at this week's U.S. Senior Open in Scioto, Ohio with “USA” shaved on the back of his head. It's clear that he is going big with his Independence Day celebrations; that’s for sure.

Block has a reputation for making the headlines, and the USA haircut just adds to the list, as shown on USGA's X post.

Last week, he made his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Dick's Open and did quite well. Block ended up with a T9 finish but could’ve finished much higher had he not triple-bogeyed his final hole of the event.

However, he did mention a dream he had regarding the U.S. Senior Open.

Block’s dream about the U.S. Senior Open

At Endicott, Block was quite vocal about the nervousness of playing on the Champions Tour. Interestingly, he shared a fascinating dream that he had last year involving the U.S. Senior Open.

“I'm just letting you guys know this dream. I'm going to say it out loud for the first time,” Block said, as per Tod Leonard of Golf Digest. “My family's known this for a while. … I literally, and hate me for it, I don't care. But I literally had a dream that I was going to win the U.S. Senior Open the first year I turned 50. That's something I've had in my head for a long time.”

As a club professional, Block has often put in some solid performances. Earlier this season, Block secured his place in the PGA Championship for a fifth consecutive season. His senior debut performance was commendable as well.

Block became the biggest sensation in 2023 when he made the cut at the PGA Championship. He became the only club professional to do so and finished tied for 15th, the best finish by a club professional at the championship since 1986.

The 50-year-old also has four Southern California PGA Championships to his name.

Block has certainly got what it takes to make his U.S Senior Open dream come true. If he does, he’ll lift the title with USA on the back of his head.
