PGA Tour star Ludvig Åberg gave his childhood friend the surprise of a lifetime. During a first-ever trip to the United States, the friend thought he was just going for a casual round of golf, but Åberg had a much bigger destination in mind.

To begin with, the visit started at The Players Championship. The two spent time at TPC Sawgrass, where his friend watched the tournament.

Ludvig Åberg then revealed the surprise on the Fore Play Podcast on Friday: “Then the week after, we took a few days off. We took Monday off, didn’t do anything. Then Tuesday night, he’s like, ‘Do you think we can go play golf tomorrow?’ And I hadn’t told him, I’d planned this trip to Augusta National Golf Club on Wednesday."

That’s when World No. 18 revealed: "So I said, ‘Yeah, by the way… we’re actually going to Augusta tomorrow.’" By the next morning, the excitement had already kicked in.

“And he just fell apart. This was like 7 o’clock Tuesday night. So yeah, we went to Augusta National Golf Club the next day. He was so nervous, he said, ‘I woke up at 3 a.m. and couldn’t go back to sleep.’ It was hilarious. What a surprise. It was cool. It was really cool,” said the two-time PGA Tour winner.

While the moment showed a personal side of Ludvig Åberg, it also comes at a time when his career is moving forward ahead of the Masters Tournament.

Ludvig Åberg enters the 2026 Masters with steady results

Åberg is set to play in the 2026 Masters Tournament, scheduled from April 9–12 at Augusta National Golf Club. He is already confirmed in the field.

He secured his place by finishing inside the top 12 at the 2025 Masters, where he tied for seventh. This will mark his third straight appearance at the event.

At the same time, his recent results show consistency on the PGA Tour. He finished tied for fifth at The Players Championship in March 2026 at nine-under par. Before that, he placed tied for third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 12-under.

Looking back, his record at Augusta shows a clear pattern. In 2024, he finished second at seven-under in his first major appearance, and last year he tied for seventh and was in contention late in the final round.

Taken together, his results place him among the players to watch heading into this year’s Masters.
