PGA Tour pro Seamus Power finished his first round at the John Deere Classic but later withdrew from the tournament.
Two-time PGA Tour winner Seamus Power withdrew from the $8.8 million tournament after shooting a 6-over 77 in the first round on Thursday, July 2. He pulled out before the second round because of an injury.
PGA Tour Communications confirmed on July 2, 2026, that Seamus Power withdrew from the John Deere Classic because of a back injury. The tournament is being played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Power's scorecard reflected the difficulty he was having before the withdrawal was confirmed.
He opened with a birdie on the first hole and added another on the par-4 eighth to reach 2 under through nine holes. The back nine unraveled quickly. He made consecutive bogeys on the 10th and 11th, then closed with three straight double bogeys on holes 15, 16 and 17 to finish at 6 over.
On 15 and 16, his drives were noticeably shorter and veered left, leading to penalty drops. On 17, he pulled his drive left again, took a free drop, and could not convert the chip.
Seamus Power has dealt with recurring back and hip problems since 2023.
He withdrew from the 2024 RSM Classic with a back injury, and in June 2025, he pulled out after nine holes at the RBC Canadian Open due to the same issue.
PGA Tour Pro Seamus Power’s season and career record
Power has made the cut in 10 of his 14 tournaments this season.
His best result was a top-10 finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he teamed up with Matti Schmid.
He is currently ranked No. 198 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Power's first PGA Tour win came at the 2021 Barbasol Championship, where he beat J.T. Poston in a playoff. His second victory came at the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
He earned his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour and joined the PGA Tour in 2017.
While Power was struggling through his round, Lucas Glover and Zac Blair shared the early lead at 8-under 63 on Thursday, according to the PGA Tour's official site. Glover won the John Deere Classic in 2021. Power's 6-over 77 had already left him well outside contention before the withdrawal was confirmed.
