Playing the game while owning a part of it? Yes, that’s what the PGA Tour introduced with a player equity program in 2024, and it has now provided an update via a memo sent Thursday by Brian Rolapp.

The memo confirmed a shift to a performance-based system for awarding player equity, with grants now determined solely by competitive results.

The initial equity grants were issued in 2025 to approximately 20 players.

Those grants were determined using an abbreviated career points list covering the previous three years, along with rankings from the 2025 Player Impact Program, which measures both on-course results and off-course impact. 

Here’s how the PGA Tour equity has changed

According to the update, players who finish inside the top 50 of the 2026 FedExCup standings through the BMW Championship will receive recurring equity grants in PGA Tour Enterprises in April 2027.

"By broadening the Player Equity Program, we are reaffirming our commitment to recognizing competitive performance and ensuring more of our members have the opportunity to share in the PGA Tour’s long-term success," Rolapp said in the memo.

The equity grants issued in 2025 to more than 20 players were based on career points from the previous three years, points earned during the prior season, and the Player Impact Program.

The PGA Tour player equity program affects LIV Golf by providing an ownership-based incentive for players to stay with the PGA Tour. Players who moved to LIV Golf were not included in the initial equity grants.

The program was introduced to support player retention and address competition from LIV Golf’s contract structure.
