Phil Mickelson Calls Anthony Kim’s Comeback “One of the Best Stories in Sports”

Congratulations poured in across the golf world as Anthony Kim secured a win at LIV Golf Adelaide 2026, marking a hopeful new chapter after 12 years away.
Adding to the list of congratulations was six-time major champion Phil Mickelson, who shared his reaction on X on Feb. 15, expressing his joy and support, writing: “One of the best stories in sports!”
Mickelson’s reaction matched the moment, as Anthony Kim secured his first win in nearly sixteen years after his last win in 2010.
Kim delivered a bogey-free 9-under-par 63 in the final round of LIV Golf Adelaide to secure a three-stroke victory over Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau.
Referring to Kim’s performance against top competitors, Mickelson highlighted the victory, saying, “Going head-to-head with Rahm and Bryson and winning was spectacular tv.”
Kim began the day five shots behind the leaders but closed the gap through consistent play. Kim finished the tournament at 23-under-par, moving ahead of Rahm and DeChambeau to complete his return with a win.
What makes the comeback more meaningful is that the 40-year-old has openly spoken about his struggles with addiction, depression, and anxiety during his time away from the sport.
He worked toward the goal of competing again and contending for a title at the professional level, and securing the win marked the completion of that effort.
Following the victory at LIV Golf Adelaide 2026, Phil Mickelson also expressed hope that the result would help Kim earn opportunities to compete in the four major championships.
Phil Mickelson hopes Anthony Kim gets major championship opportunities
Phil Mickelson added that he would not rule out the possibility of Kim winning a major championship, saying, “I wish the win got him in the 4 majors. He might still get in by invite, but he really earned it. Winning a major? I wouldn’t put it past him. He deserves the opportunity to find out. 🙏Just my opinion.”
LIV Golf players can compete in all four major championships, but they must meet the qualification rules set by each event.
The majors operate independently, so the PGA Tour suspension does not prevent LIV players from entering if they qualify.
Tournament committees may issue special invitations to players based on performance.
Players can also qualify through regional and final qualifying events, especially for the U.S. Open and The Open Championship.
