When Scottie Scheffler is on the leaderboard, every player knows the tournament can change fast.

In the same event, Chris Gotterup secured his second win of the 2026 season by defeating Hideki Matsuyama.

After his win, Gotterup was asked about Scottie Scheffler’s current form. Specifically, he was asked if he noticed when Scheffler shot 2-over in an opening round.

"Well, I watched the 2-over round, so I know he's going to play well. Everyone has seen it out here. If I could bet on golf, I would have put a lot of money on him to come out and play good on Friday. And I didn't," The four-time PGA Tour winner replied.

Scottie Scheffler finished tied for third at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open with a total of 15-under par (269). He ended one shot short of the playoff between Chris Gotterup and Hideki Matsuyama.

At the start, Scheffler posted a 2-over 73 with five bogeys and one double bogey. After that, he shot 17-under across the final 54 holes. He also recorded a bogey-free 7-under 64 in the last round.

"But he's the best player in the world right now, and what he did today, I'm playing behind him again, so I could hear it all day. There's no pressure to; if he wins a golf tournament, you're not surprised."

During the back nine, Scheffler made four birdies in five holes, including a 72-foot birdie putt on the 14th.

At the end, Scheffler needed a birdie on the 18th to reach the playoff. Instead, he hit a heavy approach from the fairway and made par.

With that finish in place, Chris Gotterup closed out the event to win the title.
