Jason Day has plans to come to the 2026 Masters with one of the boldest outfits ever, but Augusta National made one small change.

The club asked him not to wear the matching bird-print pants that were part of his full Malbon Golf outfit for the week.

He can still wear the printed shirts, vest, and jacket, just not the pants. Instead, he will wear plain pants. This shows how strict Augusta is about its rules.

This is not the first time either. The Australian golfer was also asked to remove a Malbon vest during a round at the 2024 Masters.

The bird theme this year runs deep, and founder Stephen Malbon built the entire collection around species found at Augusta National, such as scarlet tanagers, cardinals, blue jays, orioles, eastern bluebirds, golden finch, and the red-headed woodpecker.

Wednesday's vest is modeled after a classic birding jacket, right down to the binocular pocket.

Malbon has been texting Daybird sound recordings for six months straight. Jason Day's reaction has been consistent. "He's like, 'What is wrong with you?'" Malbon said while laughing.

There's genuine intention behind it, though. Malbon draws on Native American traditions, in which each bird carries a specific meaning. His theory is that a player aware of his natural surroundings performs better.

"If you are on the course and you are tuned in with nature and know the sounds of birds, you'll make more birdies," Malbon said.

The 38-year-old isn't the only one Malbon is dressing this week, and that's where things get even more interesting.

Malbon Is Styling Three Masters Contenders

Fred Couples is wearing simple, plain clothes, while Sungjae Im is wearing clothes with large logos and bright patterns. Jason Day is somewhere in between.

"Not every piece we have is for everyone," Malbon said. "But there's a lot of depth to our brand, and there are pieces for everyone."

The brand has also added Anthony Kim as an ambassador. He is a former PGA Tour player who chose to take a share in the company instead of a salary.

Kim set a Masters record in 2009 with 11 birdies in one round at Augusta. He was 23 at the time. He has not returned since then. Malbon believes that could change.

"That is definitely his plan," Malbon said. "He knows what he has to do to get there. If he keeps winning, inevitably he'll be back there."

For now, Day is representing Malbon at Augusta, and he will wear bird-print shirts with plain pants.
