Pro golfer making his Open debut in 2026, but he's already chasing next year's win

Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra arrives at The Open in the best form of his career. While the 26-year-old is preparing for his debut at the season's final major, his ultimate goal lies a year ahead at St Andrews.
Back-to-back wins on the DP World Tour last month have been the biggest feat of the Spaniard's career. However, a major win compares to nothing.
“I think the biggest win would be an Open at St Andrews, and I know that’s next year,” Chacarra said. “That’s what I have in my mind, you know. I want to make sure I qualify and have a good tournament that week.”

Chacarra only has two major appearances under his belt heading to Royal Birkdale. He qualified for the 2025 PGA Championship and the 2024 U.S. Open. However, he failed to make the cut in both.
This time around, the former LIV player comes in with exceptional form after winning the KLM Open in the Netherlands on June 7 by one stroke and following it up with a dominant five-shot victory at the Italian Open three weeks later.
“Yeah, it’s the biggest tournament in the world. I mean, to be able to call yourself ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’ is something we all dream of. And just having the chance to tee it up in my first Open, obviously, I’m going to go there to try and enjoy it as much as possible,” said Chacarra, as reported by Bunkered.
At The Open, only Ben Curtis in 2003 and Collin Morikawa in 2021 have lifted the Claret Jug on their debut. Chacarra could join the elite list with a win at Royal Birkdale.
The Spaniard has opened up about his wish to compete on the PGA Tour and recently commented on his decision to leave LIV.
When Eugenio Chacarra decided to leave LIV
Chacarra joined LIV in 2022 and secured his lone win at the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok the same year. Despite the monetary success, he wanted more.
"I saw how much winning on the PGA Tour or DP World Tour changes your life is when I knew that I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible,” said Chacarra on a recent episode of Dan on Golf on YouTube.
Chacarra was disappointed with the lack of major access and ranking points on the rebel tour. At the end of the 2024 season, the Spaniard parted ways with the league.
At the moment, Chacarra is well on his way to the PGA Tour, as his third-place ranking in the DP World Tour standings will secure him one of the 10 PGA Tour cards on offer.
