Real Reason Adam Scott Still Calls Dustin Johnson’s Masters Dinner Special

The Masters Champions Dinner, held annually at Augusta National Golf Club, is one of golf’s most exclusive traditions.
Each defending champion hosts the dinner and typically says a few words to fellow Masters winners gathered in the room. Over the years, those speeches have ranged from humorous to heartfelt.
Former Masters champion Adam Scott admitted that when it was his turn to host the dinner, he didn’t put much thought into preparing a speech.
Scott also noted that while he can barely remember what he said during his own speech, a few others delivered at the dinner over the years have stood out in his memory. Amongst them was the 2020 masters winner, Dustin Johnson.
Reflecting on Johnson’s speech, the 2020 Genesis Invitational winner recalled the rare emotion the usually reserved golfer showed, speaking during a press conference at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Thursday.

“It was the most you've ever heard him speak. I think the emotion of it was, yeah, it was really touching, you know, for him, obviously, but for everyone else too. You don't really get a lot out of D.J., so to see some emotion was really fantastic,” Scott said.
To understand why the moment stood out to Scott, it helps to look at how Dustin Johnson is generally known within the golf world.
Why Dustin Johnson’s Rare Emotion Stood Out to Adam Scott
Dustin Johnson has built a reputation for staying calm during competition and not dwelling on previous shots or results.
Players and coaches have often pointed to his simple approach to the game, focus on the shot, and move forward without carrying mistakes.
The twenty-four-time PGA Tour winner’s caddie and brother, Austin Johnson, along with members of his family, have also said they rarely see him show frustration on the course. Johnson tends to keep his responses short in interviews and maintains a low profile with the media.
His manager once described him as having a mindset where criticism or setbacks do not stay with him for long, allowing him to focus only on what is in front of him.
Because of that approach, moments where Johnson shows visible emotion are uncommon. What are your thoughts on Adam Scott's revelation about Johnson's speech? Let us know in the comments!
