With the Masters set to begin in two weeks, Pierceson Coody’s chances of playing it look very bleak. Standing at OWGR 51, Coody had to perform well at the latest Texas Children’s Houston Open to have a fair chance to play the Masters.
But something unforeseen happened.
Pierceson Coody withdrew because of a back injury.
Coody, at rank 51, is just one rank away from being invited to the Augusta National next month. The Texas Children’s Houston Open and the Valero Texas Open demanded the best of him.
It was a considerably good start for Pierceson Coody at the Memorial Park Golf Course—seven shots off the lead before the second round.
Coody was on a good run at the start of the year. With a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open and making six straight cuts to begin the year, Coody was on the right track. However, his form dipped recently.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship witnessed Pierceson Coody missing the cut. Thereafter, he finished T55 at the Valspar Championship, which wasn’t impressive either.
Coody’s final shot at the Masters would be by winning the Valero Texas Open next week. In four days, he needs to have a solution for the back pain.
Pierceson Coody’s History of Injuries
Coody has been prone to injuries, sometimes in an unusual fashion.
In 2022, Coody fractured his left hand and had surgery to remove a bone. The recovery forced him to miss time, after which he returned for the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour season.
In the same year, Pierceson Coody "injured his forearm hitting a shot out of the rough," as his manager Mike Chisum stated, at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals event.
Back in 2021, Coody and his brother were involved in an accident after a post-workout relay race. Both suffered fractures to their right arms.
Pierceson Coody was also afflicted by a virus, which led him to withdraw from the Walker Cup and the NCAA Championship during the quarantine period.
Along with all of this, Coody's right shoulder has also caused issues for him.
