"Adrenaline Was Pumping": Richard T. Lee Reflects on Costly Miss After Losing to Bryson DeChambeau

Two feet and that’s all stood between Richard T. Lee and the biggest win of his career.

On March 15 in Singapore, the Canadian wildcard missed it, but the way he handled the situation said a lot about the kind of player he is. Lee birdied the 18th in regulation to take the lead, and Bryson DeChambeau matched him soon after to force a playoff.

"It's a short putt, and I wanted to just hit it hard," Lee said. "I hit it a little too hard. I think the adrenaline was pumping a little bit."

In the sudden-death playoff, DeChambeau pulled his tee shot into the water, opening the door. Lee had about 10 feet for a birdie to win, and he totally missed them. Then he had a two-footer to keep the playoff going and missed that, too.

No excuses or blaming anyone. It's just that Lee was honest about what happened and knew he had let the chance that had slip away.

The result hurts even more because of the situation. His second-place finish is the best result ever by a LIV Golf wildcard. Lee came to Singapore as a player; not many people knew, but he left after pushing one of LIV’s biggest stars right to the end.

"I feel like I had it this week," Lee said. "I played really well."

The Canadian Wildcard Who Just Changed What That Label Means

Richard T. Lee is a 35-year-old golfer born in Toronto and now based in Seoul.

He earned his place in LIV by winning the 2026 Promotions event, becoming the first Canadian to secure a full-time spot in the league.  Singapore was the biggest stage of his career so far, and he handled it well, as Bryson DeChambeau made that clear after the round.

“The league should be really proud to have him as a wildcard,” he said.

Lee kept his response simple. “Hopefully, next week I can try again.”

He looked ahead without making a big deal out of the loss. Singapore gave Lee a runner-up trophy and something else: a strong reputation. The wildcard tag may still be there on paper, but after this week, no one in that field will see him that way.
