Rising Star A. Talley Shares Wise Lesson on Why She Won't Copy Nelly Korda’s Game

Promising amateur Asterisk Talley competed at the JM Eagle LA Championship at her home course, El Caballero Country Club, where she faced notable LPGA pros.

Currently ranked No. 9 in WAGR, Talley finished T13 at the tournament.

“Yeah, I think just some advice I've been given through multiple people is especially when you get on big stages like this and see players like Nelly and people obviously a little bit better than you and you think, oh, maybe I have to do what they're doing to help me get better,” Talley said.

World No. 2 Nelly Korda did not feature at the JM Eagle LA Championship, as she instead prepared for the Chevron Championship. Korda remains a primary inspiration for the next generation of golfers. However, Talley had a different perspective.

“You just have to focus on what you have done to make yourself better and you can't really lean on what other people do that makes them better; it might not be the same for you,” Talley added.

Talley’s Collapse At ANWA

The 17-year-old entered the final round of ANWA with a one-shot lead. She had created a tournament record with 36 consecutive bogey-free holes to open the event.

Talley was on track to break her own record before reaching the 12th hole.

“I mean, obviously the big number on 12 was definitely something that went a little wrong. Just had some missed greens there I guess. Just a little number conspiracies there and left and right on some areas,” she said about her ANWA collapse.

After rounds of 66 and 67, Talley collapsed at the famous par-3 12th hole.

She suffered a quadruple-bogey 7 as her tee shot found a bunker and the following two shots were headed into Rae’s Creek. Her lead was gone and she eventually finished tied for 4th.
