Robert MacIntyre Says the $9.8M PGA Tour Stop Feels More Social Than Usual

When an event kicks off right before The Masters, fans expect tight competition. However, Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre found it to be a bigger social stop. And there's a good reason for it.

The Valero Texas Open provides a rather special social life for the golfers during the tournament. When asked about that, MacIntyre responded,

“It does. A lot of people in the hotel. You're passing everyone. You go out for dinner and stuff with my caddie and my coach. It does somewhat feel a little bit different this week. Everyone's not in houses and you're not meeting everyone when you get to the golf course. Yeah, I think I enjoy the weather, that little bit of breeze.”

MacIntyre insisted that the Oaks Course seems to be a part of the DP World Tour. The “World Tour” vibe originates from the J.W. Marriott, which hosts at least half the participants. This results in frequent interactions between golfers and their families eating at the same restaurants. Even caddies like to splurge and bring their families along

Moreover, on the day of Easter, the players were given a basket full of chocolates and Legos for children, along with a tournament gift and coloring book. Whether it's water slides, throwing a football, or just players choosing to spend time with their kids instead of practice, the tournament is a good breather before golfers return to their hectic schedule.

And for MacIntyre, there was another benefit.

“I obviously enjoy the weather, just now it's not too hot. Yeah, enjoy the kind of -- it's a nice environment, nice people. Yeah, so far, so good.”

However, the golfer has a big challenge coming up.

MacIntyre Coming Into the Masters

Robert MacIntyre seems to have started 2026 in the same stellar form with which he finished off 2025. Going as high as rank No. 5 this year, MacIntyre has set his eyes on the green jacket.

MacIntyre secured two 4th-place (one being T4) finishes this year, one at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the other at THE PLAYERS Championship.

“Look, I just, from the start I mean, I know I played nicely. I got off to a nice start, starting on that back nine was nice. If you play well, you can build momentum.”

MacIntyre looks forward to keeping up the momentum as he features at the Masters this week.
