Robert MacIntyre got off to a good start at Royal Birkdale. However, on Sunday, the Scot fell out of contention and couldn’t hide his frustration at the 16th.

MacIntyre is known for not hiding his feelings when it comes to majors. After failing to hit his intended tee shot at the par-4 16th, the 29-year-old lost his cool.

MacIntyre exchanged a few words with his caddie, Mike Burrows, and hit his driver hard into the ground. He then started walking off the tee box, extremely disappointed. 

After the temper tantrum, as shown on NUCLR GOLF's post, the World No.15 ended up making a bogey on the hole.

It left him at 2-over. However, with a birdie at the 18th, he pulled the score back to finish at 1-over 71 for the day. The tantrum didn't go unnoticed.

As per Joel Beall of Golf Digest, MacIntyre received a code of conduct warning for pounding his club on multiple occasions on Sunday.

MacIntyre’s opening-round temper tantrum also made headlines.  After finding the thick rough at the 18th, the Scot was left disappointed with the hole.

"Such a s*** golf hole, innit? It really is,” said MacIntyre to his caddie.

After being just two strokes off the lead at the end of the first round, MacIntyre finished way down the order by the end.

The Scot finished at 2-under par, with back-to-back rounds of 71.  His dream to lift a major will have to wait another year.

It's not the first time he has received a code of conduct warning.

As the major season comes to an end, MacIntyre will look back at a disappointing series of performances at the championships. 

It started poorly at Augusta, where he failed to make the cut, and the only highlight was the code-of-conduct warning he received.

On the opening day, MacIntyre made a quadruple bogey on the 15th hole. After finding the water, the Ryder Cup star briefly gestured with his middle finger, as reported by Golf Monthly. The Augusta National wasn’t going to let it slide.

On top of that, the Scot had pounded his club at the 14th and 17th holes and on multiple occasions was heard swearing. As a result, justifiably, he received a code-of-conduct warning.

As things turned out, MacIntyre started and ended his 2026 major season with a code-of-conduct warning.
