Rory McIlroy and Wife Lands Cameo in Meryl Streep's The Devil Wears Prada 2

As The Devil Wears Prada 2 released on the 1st of May, golf fans were taken aback by the cameo presence of one of their own stars, Rory McIlroy and also his wife.

McIlroy is no stranger to the spotlight. Last year, with his cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, McIlroy brought the worlds of golf and cinema together.

“Well, the one I was most excited for will surprise isn’t even in the world of fashion. I mean I loved having Rory McIlroy,” said David Frankel, the director of the movie.

“He was a great sport. A very good actor,” Frankel added.

The two-time Green Jacket winner and his wife, Erica, feature when the film focuses on a Met Gala-style party. The McIlroys are present on screen, interacting with other guests at the party.

Featuring Hollywood stars like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, the sequel has long been anticipated by fans. Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna reunite to follow up on the 2006 masterpiece.

“You know it was triggered because last year, right before he won the Players Championship, the press asked him what he did to relax the night before he won the tournament, and he said he watched “The Devil Wears Prada,” Frankel said.

“I knew we had a fan,” he added.

After a huge delay due to bad weather conditions at TPC Sawgrass, McIlroy won the playoff against World No. 10 J.J. Spaun.

The night before the playoff, the six-time major champion cooled off his nerves, as he "watched a little bit of Devil Wears Prada and went to bed."

Frankel, interestingly, was aware of this. Frankel contacted the golfer after hearing the interview, leading to the brief appearance.

What Happened At TPC Sawgrass Last Year

Back at TPC Sawgrass last year, McIlroy grabbed the win for his 28th PGA Tour title.

With the playoff win against America’s J.J. Spaun, McIlroy became just the 8th player to win multiple THE PLAYERS Championship titles.

On a personal level, it was the first time McIlroy had won multiple PGA Tour titles before April. The World No. 2 had already secured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in January 2025.
