Rory McIlroy shared his first major victory with longtime friend and caddie Harry Diamond. In his post-round comments on April 13, McIlroy became emotional as he spoke about Diamond’s role in his career and life.

When asked what it meant to share the moment with his caddie, Harry Diamond, a friend he has known since childhood, McIlroy said:

“We’ve had so many good times together. He’s been like a big brother to me the whole way through my life. And to be able to share this with him after all the close calls that we’ve had… all the crap that he’s had to take from people that don’t know anything about the game.”

McIlroy first met Diamond at Hollywood Golf Club and has known him since they were seven.

McIlroy ended his Masters win drought on April 13 by claiming his first green jacket and becoming the first European to complete his career grand slam, and he dedicated the win to Diamond.

“Yeah, this one is just as much his as it is mine.”

McIlroy completed 72 holes tied with Rose at 11-under 277 after the final round at Augusta National Golf Club round which included a double-bogey on the 13th hole. He secured the victory with a short birdie putt on the first playoff hole, the 18th.

Diamond worked as McIlroy’s caddie since 2017 before the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and has been a team since then, including at the 2025 Masters Tournament.

How was Rory McIlroy's 2025 season

McIlroy helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in September at Bethpage Black. He also won the Amgen Irish Open on the DP World Tour.

He later secured his seventh Race to Dubai title in November and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in December.
