Rory McIlroy was asked which major he liked the most, and he chose the Masters. He is currently leading the tournament.

The former Masters champion was at the top of the leaderboard at seven under par during round two at Augusta National. He was two shots ahead of Jason Day, Patrick Reed, and Justin Rose, who were all tied at five under. It was a position McIlroy believed he would be in even before the tournament started.

"Everything here is a little more predictable," McIlroy said.

"The more experience you have around this golf course, the better it is. That's why I think here."

This is his 18th Masters start, and he knows the course very well. He showed that in round one, making five birdies in his last 11 holes, and sharing the overnight lead with Sam Burns at five under.

The second round didn't start very well. Rory McIlroy dropped shots on three of his first four holes. On the fourth hole, he hit a good drive but then missed the green with his next shot.

He didn't panic, stayed calm, kept the lead, and later increased it to two shots before the back nine.

This is the strong mindset he spoke about on Monday, and it shows why the Irish golfer’s confidence this week seems very real.

McIlroy’s Club Change at Augusta Shows His Preparation

McIlroy didn't just come with experience. He also brought a club he knows well, one that already has history at this course.

Before the week started, he went back to using the TaylorMade Qi10 3-wood. He reverted to the same 3-wood he used last year. It's a club he trusts.

The reason for the change is not clear yet, but round one gave some early clues. At the par-5 eighth hole, McIlroy used the Qi10 to hit his second shot to 25 feet from more than 265 yards.

The shaft looked the same as before, the Fujikura Ventus Black 8X. He did not change his driver or 5-wood. Only the 3-wood was different.

It is a small change, but at Augusta, small changes can make a big difference.
