Rory McIlroy had some harsh words for Bryson DeChambeau at the Open. However, now, it looks like the Irishman has moved on from that as he wishes the LIV man to join him at the Irish Open.

McIlroy called out DeChambeau, who he believed was seeking attention at Royal Birkdale. In the end, he invited the two-time major winner to this year’s Amgen Irish Open. 

“I mean, I think that would be great for the tournament, absolutely. Having someone like Bryson at the Irish Open, yeah, it would be great for the tournament,” said McIlroy.

The Irish Open is set to take place in September at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, Ireland. With DeChambeau’s presence, the annual DP World Tour event will attract significant viewership.

Moreover, the PGA Tour has undergone a structural shift. As part of the Strategic Alliance with the DP World Tour, the American circuit will feature a limited series of elevated international events. The Irish Open could be a part of it, and McIlroy had his say on that.

“If it's going to stay -- I guess next year it might change because of the Ryder Cup in Adare, but if it's going to stay in that September date, I don't see how it becomes part of the PGA Tour season when the PGA Tour is going to be played from February to August,” McIlroy added, as shown on Flushing It's X post.

McIlroy will defend his title at his home event after winning it last year in a playoff over Joakim Lagergren. 

There are strong rumours DeChambeau could be headed to Ireland as well, but only time will tell whether he takes up McIlroy’s invitation.

Earlier this week, McIlroy did not hesitate in his criticism towards the LIV golfer.

Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau have a longstanding rivalry. Now, they are faces of two different circuits, which has fueled the competitiveness even more. The Irishman is not fond of the LIV man.

"I won't pretend to be up here and defend Bryson," said McIlroy, as shown on Irish Times Sport's X post. "I'm not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it's performative. I think a lot of it's for attention."

DeChambeau’s two-stroke penalty at the Open caused a major hiatus. The 32-year-old was left frustrated and was willing to withdraw. 

That caused a delay in the publication of the Moving Day tee times, and McIlroy was having none of it. He also hailed the R&A’s decision to assess the penalty. 

DeChambeau suffered a huge setback and finished tied for 14th. McIlroy, on the other hand, had to settle for a tie for 40th.
