Rory McIlroy spent the better part of two decades chasing a green jacket. Now, for the first time, he's talking about the round that finally delivered one.

Golf on CBS announced on Thursday that "Jim Nantz Remembers Augusta: McIlroy's Masterpiece" will air on Sunday, April 12. In that special, we will see McIlroy in conversation with Jim Nantz, going back through a final round that had everything: bad breaks, near-disasters, and a finish nobody who watched it will forget.

A clip shared on X cut straight to what the day meant to him.

"The day that I made all my dreams come true. Absolutely," McIlroy told Nantz.

It was not easy for him, and he had a short putt to win, but missed it. Then it went to a playoff, and McIlroy had to focus again. Finally, Rory secured the victory by rolling in a 3-foot birdie putt. Upon the ball dropping, he famously dropped to his knees in a mix of tears and relief.

What kept him grounded was a decision he'd locked in before he even teed off. "I made a promise to myself that I was going to stay aggressive," he said.

A creek came into play. Shots went sideways, and through 17 starts at the same course, the nerves never once left him alone.

"I get more nervous on the first tee at Augusta National than anywhere else," McIlroy said. He got through all of it and just barely, and he knew it.

Winning a green jacket changes how you feel when you come back to Augusta, and McIlroy knows that feeling too well.

McIlroy will arrive at the 2026 Masters as the defending champion.  This is something that felt impossible for most of his career, and he has won four majors, also played 17 times at Augusta.

But this win felt different from all the others.

Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1 and a two-time Masters winner, is one of the top players trying to stop him from winning again. The competition is strong, and the pressure is different when you are defending your title instead of chasing it.

But McIlroy has already gone through one of the hardest final rounds at Augusta. He dealt with missed putts, a playoff, and tough moments that could have changed everything.
