Rory McIlroy has finally completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta National. But he believes one of the course's highest honors will always be out of reach. When asked about a commemorative plaque, McIlroy was quick to shut the idea down.

Not once, but three times, the 29-time PGA Tour winner responded, “They won’t. They won’t. They won’t.”

The club does maintain several commemorative markers that recognize figures and moments connected to the Masters.

Among them is a plaque honoring Jack Nicklaus for his six Masters titles, located on a drinking fountain between the 16th and 17th holes. Another plaque behind the 16th tee recognizes Arnold Palmer and his four Masters victories. The other two are Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, both of whom helped turn Augusta National into the giant it is today.

On the other hand, when McIlroy won the Masters, he joined six players who have won all four modern majors: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. It also made McIlroy the first European player to complete the modern career Grand Slam.

While his achievements are significant, Augusta National reserves this honor for players who hold a special place in the course's history. But if McIlroy wins a couple more Masters, could he get one? If he does, we know his plans for it.

Rory McIlroy on Where Augusta National Places Its Tributes

During the press conference, when the 2025 THE PLAYERS Championship winner was asked where such recognition would appear if Augusta National ever chose to mark the moment, Rory McIlroy pointed:

“Well, bridges or water fountains.”

As the 36-year-old prepares for the 2026 Masters, his career Grand Slam victory continues to shape the narrative of his return. McIlroy is now in the final stages of preparing to defend his title at Augusta National when the Masters returns from April 9 to April 12. 

In recent weeks, McIlroy has already spent time at Augusta National for practice and course study. He made one visit in late February and another in early March as part of his preparation. During those rounds, he also paid attention to course updates, including the 17th hole, which now plays about 10 yards longer and measures around 450 yards.
