Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy has five major championship wins since turning professional in 2007. As he enters the 2026 season, he returns to the Masters as the defending champion.

Here is a look at his major results and earnings, based on the data from Spotrac.

2008–2010: Rory McIlroy's First Major Appearances

Between 2008 and 2010, McIlroy began competing in majors without recording a win, but he produced early results. He made his debut at the 2009 Masters and finished T20, and in the same season, he finished T3 at the PGA Championship. In 2010, he led The Open after a first-round 63 and later finished T3, along with another T3 at the PGA Championship.

During this phase, his earnings started to build, reaching $682,571 in 2008–09 and $829,238 in 2009–10, taking his cumulative total to $1.5 million as he moved from entry to contention.

2011–2015: Rory McIlroy's Major Wins and Earnings Growth

This then led to a phase where results and earnings increased together. He won the U.S. Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012, and added two more wins in 2014 at The Open and the PGA Championship.

These results reflected directly in his earnings, with $1.64 million in 2010–11 and $1.49 million in 2011–12. His earnings rose further to $3.77 million in 2013–14, and by the end of 2014–15 his cumulative major earnings reached $9.59 million.

2016–2024: No Wins, Continued Results

Between 2016 and 2024, McIlroy did not record a major win. Despite that, he stayed within the top positions through consistent results. He had multiple top-10 finishes, which included second place at the Masters in 2022 and a runner up finish at the U.S. Open in 2023 and 2024.

Even then, his earnings remained stable, moving from $10.13 million in 2015–16 to $12.88 million by 2019–20, and to $17.34 million in 2021–22. By 2024, his collective major earnings had reached $23.47 million.

2025: Masters Win and Career Grand Slam

That trajectory changed in 2025. McIlroy won the Masters at Augusta National in a playoff against Justin Rose, completing the career Grand Slam. With this result, he joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen.

In the same season, he finished T47 at the PGA Championship, T19 at the U.S. Open, and T7 at The Open. His earnings in 2025 reached $7.93 million, pushing his cumulative total to $28.41 million.

What’s next for Rory McIlroy in 2026? Can he build on his Grand Slam and dominate the majors again?

Rory finally got his green jacket, and he did it in style. His week at 2025 Masters Tournament held from April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Club was packed with gusty swings, daring recoveries and ice-cold putting. In Round 2 of the 2025 Masters at Augusta, McIlroy found the fairway on the 10th and then sent a confident second shot into the green, triggering his comeback after a rough opening round. With the tournament still wide open, this shot re-established his swagger and signalled he would be a contender. Mark Newcombe/Imago
Also on day two, Rory followed the 10th shot by attacking a challenging front-left pin on the 11th. From a tricky lie right of the trees, his precision approach showed boldness and gave him a dart-like strike that few players would attempt under pressure. @TheMasters/X
Still on his hot streak in the second round, McIlroy executed a remarkable recovery on the 14th hole, coming out of trouble among the pines and still managing a shot that put him very much in contention. It wasn’t perfect, but it was one of his best salvage efforts of the week. AP Photo/Eric Gay
The moving day started hot; on Saturday’s third round at Augusta, Rory chipped in or landed a near-birdie on the par-4 2nd hole after a stellar tee shot. It gave him momentum early in his Saturday charge and signalled he was coming for the title. John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
Still in Round 2, on the par-5 13th, Rory’s second shot looked perilous, even he thought it might find the water, yet it found its way onto the green and turned into an eagle. A moment of unbridled stroke-making when he needed it most. Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports
Sunday at Augusta delivered one of Rory’s most brilliant recoveries: at the 7th hole in the final round, from deep in the trees, McIlroy carved out a shot through a tiny gap and nearly holed it for eagle. When that happened, it felt like one of the greatest shots ever seen. AP Photo/Eric Gay
In Round 3, McIlroy produced a thunderous hook-around-the-tree approach on the par-5 15th that left him mere feet from eagle; that shot held swagger, bold strategy and execution: a turning point in the tournament. David Yeazell-USA TODAY Sports
Then on Sunday, under full pressure, Rory pulled off the same hole again, the 15th, in even more dramatic fashion: from a difficult lie, he hooked his approach under and around a tree, landing within a few feet and seizing momentum in the final battle. This shot will become part of Masters lore. Petter Arvidson/Imago
In the hole-by-hole playoff at the 2025 Masters, McIlroy delivered the defining moment: his third shot on the 18th (playoff) set up the winning putt and completed his Career Grand Slam. The culmination of the dream, the pressure and the talent all coming together. AP Photo/Matt Slocum
