Ryan Gerard Sends Blunt Message About Life on the PGA Tour: "A Million Other Guys..."

According to the National Golf Foundation, on a tour where 136 million people engage with the game but only a handful keep their cards, 26-year-old Ryan Gerard just delivered a cold reality check about survival at the top.

“Yeah, I think there's no easy route in this profession. You kind of have to go earn every single step... You're going to go earn it, and there's a lot of really good players who want it really badly. If you want to compete with those guys, you're going to have to want it just as bad, if not more, and be willing to put in the effort...There's a million other guys sitting at home this week not playing that want it just as bad if not more, and they would trade anything to be in the spot that I am right now.”

And we can see why Gerard says that. Just take a look at his journey so far. He started on the PGA Tour Canada and won the Quebec Open in his fourth professional start. After that, he advanced to the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won the 2024 BMW Charity Pro-Am by six strokes at 26-under par.

Meanwhile, his finishes at the Cognizant Classic and the Puerto Rico Open in 2023 earned him Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour. And if you don't perform, you can lose your card.

Gerard puts emphasis on the idea that nothing in professional golf is guaranteed and every level has to be earned through effort.

That mindset has already shaped his 2026 campaign, where his results early in the season reflect the same step-by-step approach he spoke about.

Ryan Gerard’s 2026 season has started with steady results. As of February 27, he ranks seventh in the FedExCup standings with 590 points and has made five cuts in five starts.

He finished second at the Sony Open in Hawaii and tied for second at The American Express, then followed with finishes of T11 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T45 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T28 at The Genesis Invitational.

He also opened the Cognizant Classic with a first-round 73.
