A fan at Muirfield Village told PGA pro Ryan Gerard that his ball had landed in a bunker, but it had not. It took Gerard six words to shut the heckler down.

At the time, Gerard was leading the 2026 Memorial Tournament on his own during the final round at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin when the fan shouted at him after his shot.

NUCLR GOLF shared the moment on X on June 8 and said Gerard responded after taking the solo lead.

The heckler called out: "Get in the bunker." Gerard's reply was immediate. "It's not in the bunker, dog."

The comeback was delivered mid-round. Gerard did not break stride. He kept competing and stayed in contention deep into the afternoon.

It was that kind of day at Muirfield Village. A five-way tie for the lead developed late in the afternoon, with Wyndham Clark, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sam Burns all charging alongside Gerard and J.T. Poston.

Gerard's performance throughout the final round set up more than just a heckler moment.

Ryan Gerard Came Within One Putt of Winning the Biggest Title of His Career

Gerard closed with a 4-under 68 and finished at 12-under par, forcing a playoff with Poston. He holed a long-range birdie putt on the 17th to briefly take the lead before Poston birdied the 18th to level things up.

Poston started the final round with a four-shot lead. But by the end of the 13th hole, he had lost that advantage. He was 3-over for the day and fell behind for the first time since Friday.

Gerard stayed close to him the whole time. Playing in the final group, he handled the pressure well in front of a large crowd at Muirfield Village.

"I love it," Gerard said. "This is my favorite thing, being in contention to win a golf tournament."

That mindset carried him through eighteen holes alongside Poston and into the playoffs.

Gerard finished runner-up at the 2026 Memorial Tournament, a signature PGA Tour event. Poston won on the second playoff hole when Gerard missed a 6-foot par putt. The $4 million prize and multiple exemptions went to Poston.
