Scottie Scheffler might have watched the telecast his matches many times, but in 2024 he saw himself on TV while sitting in a completely unexpected place.

In an interview on February 12, 2026, the current world No. 1 talked about that strange 2024 morning when he watched himself on TV from a jail cell. Scheffler also explained what he was thinking while sitting the cell in Louisville on May 17, 2024.

Scheffler sat alone in the cell. If he walked to the front and looked out, he could see a TV. That’s when he saw himself on the screen. He said, "I saw myself on the TV and then I saw they delayed it [the start of the tournament]. I was like, oh, maybe I can get out of here in time, and I can still play."

The tournament delay gave him hope. Seeing himself on TV also hit him with reality. However, that also reminded him the most important question.

How Did Scottie Scheffler End Up in a Jail Cell?

Scheffler was arrested on May 17, 2024, for trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club. A traffic incident with a Louisville police officer led to charges being filed against him that were later dropped on the same day.

Scheffler did get out. And he made it to the course. The reception waiting for him at the 10th tee was louder than anything he expected. Fans went crazy when they saw him.

"People were going nuts," Scheffler said. "It was one of the loudest receptions I ever got. I was in jail 30 minutes ago."

Then he went out and shot 66 on May 17, 2024. Five under par just hours after sitting in a cell.
