World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler arrived at the Genesis Scottish Open as one of the favorites for next week's Open Championship. Instead, he left Scotland with a rare missed cut and an unwanted end to one of golf's most remarkable streaks.
The result marked his first missed cut since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship in August, ending a run of consistency that spanned 1,428 days and included 78 consecutive cuts made.
"I got off to a tough start and then on the back nine I didn't feel like I was hitting it close enough to give myself enough opportunities," Scheffler said in a video shared by DP World Tour on X.

His struggles were evident across the day. Despite flashes of the form that kept him at the top of the world rankings, he failed to create chances and paid the price. The final-hole bogey left him outside the projected cut line.
"I got off to a poor start and didn’t really hit it close enough to give myself a bunch of looks and that’s how you shoot over par," he added in the video.
Scheffler's assessment highlighted the lack of quality birdie opportunities that ultimately cost him a place in the weekend field and brought an end to one of the longest active streaks in professional golf.
While the missed cut may have ended the historic streak, but Scheffler is already looking ahead to the year's final major.
Scheffler shifts focus to The Open
While the result was a surprise considering his consistency, Scheffler looked more disappointed by his performance.
"Overall, not quite good enough. Like I said, I felt like I was hitting it too far from the hole and wasn’t holing any of those putts," he said in the video.
The assessment also reflected the struggles that plagued him throughout the week, as he opened with a 68 before carding a 72 in the second round to miss the cut.
The missed cut also made sure that Tiger Woods' PGA Tour record of 142 consecutive cuts remains intact. Scheffler's streak was the longest active run in professional golf and became a defining symbol of his week-to-week reliability.
Despite the setback, there is little indication that his confidence is shaken heading into the year's final major. The three-time major champion has repeatedly bounced back from disappointing performances and is still one of the leading contenders for The Open.
The Scottish Open marked a rare setback for Scheffler, ending one of the most remarkable streaks in professional golf. He will now look to regroup and shift his focus to next week's Open Championship.
