Jan 5, 2026, 9:10 PM CUT

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are both considered ‌modern golf greats. They've battled for years, and they now sit at number 1 and 2 in the world rankings.

But who’s better off of the two of them? Let’s compare them by their accomplishments in the last five years.

2021 didn’t pan out well for the 29-year-old, as he didn’t finish in the top 5 in any of the four majors. His best finish that year was in the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship, where he finished tied for eighth place.

On April 10, 2022, Scheffler defeated McIlroy by three strokes to win the Masters Tournament. This was his first-ever major win. In the same year, he came very close to winning the U.S. Open as well, but was tied for second. He didn't make the cut at the PGA Championship while being tied for 21st at The Open Championship.

2023 was another year filled with heartbreaking finishes. He finished tied for second, just behind Brooks Koepka in the PGA Championship. The New Jersey-born player followed this by securing a third-place finish at the U.S. Open in June.

2024 was quite mixed for Scheffler, as he won his second Masters. He became the fourth-youngest player to have won two Masters wins. Later, finished tied for eighth in the PGA Championship and was tied for seventh in the Open Championship.

Finally, ‌2025 was Scheffler’s most successful year. While he came close with a 4th place finish at the Masters, he won his first-ever PGA Championship and third major. The New Jersey native won his fourth and final major in July, beating English again to win his first-ever Open championship.

2021 wasn’t that great for McIlroy as far as the majors go. His best finish came at the Masters tournament, where he was tied for fifth. McIlroy also finished tied for eighth at the U.S. Open.

Next year, although the Irish legend finished in the top 10 in all majors, he failed to win all of them. McIlroy was the runner-up in the Masters tournament, losing to Scheffler despite shooting a bogey-free 64 in the final round.

After spending two more years as a runner-up in the U.S.Open, 2025 was the year McIlroy finally won another major. He defeated Justin Rose by birding his first playoff hole to win his first Masters and complete a career grand slam.
