During the third round at Shinnecock Hills, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler's caddie, Ted Scott, showed why caddies do far more than carry the bag. When Maverick McNealy became a potential distraction before Scheffler's tee shot on the 16th hole, Scott stepped in and directed the PGA Tour pro to move aside.

The 15th tee box is behind the 16th green at Shinnecock. Therefore, anyone on the 15th tee box can become a distraction for a player on the 16th. That’s what happened with Scheffler when Rory McIlroy and McNealy were at the 15th.

"Hey Mav, Maverick!" shouted Scott, along with a couple of whistles at McNealy, and gestured for him to move aside.

Scheffler and his playing partner, Brian Harman, had waited long enough to tee off, prompting Scott to run toward the 15th until McNealy heard him. After McNealy moved aside and Scheffler thanked him, the World No. 1 drove the green to set up an eagle chance but ultimately settled for a birdie.

"Yeah, one of Ted's jobs out there and roles is to help me be committed to what I'm doing," Scheffler said. "If there's someone walking in my way, then they're going to be a hindrance to me being committed to what I'm doing, so he's going to do everything he can in order to help me be committed to what I'm doing over the shot."

This was not the first time Scott had stepped up for Scheffler at Shinnecock. In the opening round, when marshals on the nearby 16th hole allowed fans to walk through the tee box as Scheffler reached the 5th, Scott quickly intervened to prevent a delay.

“Hey, could you stop them from moving, please?” Scott yelled to the marshals and the fans.

With Scott’s help, Scheffler was able to land his birdie at the major back then. Both instances showcase the importance of a caddie, who does more than just carry the bag.

Angelo Argea caddied for Jack Nicklaus and was part of 44 of the Golden Bear's 73 victories, while Fanny Sunesson became one of the first female caddies on the European Tour and worked with stars such as Nick Faldo, Fred Funk, Notah Begay III, Adam Scott, and Henrik Stenson.

More often than not, she was heard silencing loud spectators while Faldo prepared himself for his shots. Her “Stand still, please” will always be iconic.
