Scottie Scheffler didn’t earn his fortune by chasing LIV Golf’s guaranteed contracts. Instead, he became the biggest financial beneficiary because he stayed. LIV Golf entered in 2022, armed with Saudi-backed money and staggering offers.
In fact, it put $200 million in front of Phil Mickelson and $125 million before Dustin Johnson. It instantly reshaped the economic landscape. But if there is anyone who got the benefit without even joining LIV Golf was Scottie Scheffler.
The PGA Tour had no choice but to respond. And respond it did. The Tour launched the most aggressive financial overhaul in its history: the 2022–23 total purse jumped above $560 million. A 33% increase in one season, more cumulative growth than the previous eight years combined.
Signature-event purses surged to $20–25 million, and loyalty bonuses multiplied. At the same time, the Player Impact Program ballooned into a massive retention tool. And with the PGA Tour making it clear that LIV players would not be reinstated. As a result, the elevated prize money became available only to players who stayed.

Scheffler capitalized better than anyone. Why, you ask? Because he kept winning and finishing near the top almost every week. Not only this, but he also got the largest share of these inflated payouts. LIV’s financial pressure turned every PGA event into a richer opportunity, and Scottie Scheffler converted those opportunities repeatedly.
That’s why, as per Spotrac, Scottie’s earnings from 2022 till now are around $90 million. Undoubtedly, a figure unimaginable without the post-LIV money surge. And here’s the key: no other PGA Tour player turned LIV’s disruption into more financial gain than Scottie Scheffler. The combination of loyalty, timing, and performance placed him in the perfect position. And the loyalty paid off, as he got more benefit from the Tour’s money boom than any of his peers.
Loyalty helped too. The PGA Tour introduced guaranteed earnings, expanded bonuses, and retention-based payouts designed to reward players who stayed put. Scheffler, already world No. 1, ranked at or near the top of every loyalty-based distribution. LIV defectors forfeited these rewards; Scottie Scheffler collected them.
Even the structure of the PGA reforms favored him. Elevated events rewarded season-long reliability and elite ball-striking, exactly the areas where Scheffler dominates. So while every loyal PGA player earned more, Scheffler earned the most. Why? Because the new system paid premiums for the very skills he already displayed.
Ultimately, Scheffler’s $90 million isn’t just a testament to his talent. And with that, it is the clearest example of how LIV’s arrival financially transformed the sport. By staying loyal, he became the face and the greatest beneficiary of the PGA Tour’s richest era ever.
