Scottie Scheffler entered the week with 18 consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, the longest run in the modern era. If the non-official Hero World Challenge is included, the stretch reached 19 events, following his tie for fourth last December.

However, Sunday at Riviera Country Club brought a different result. Unlike the previous two weeks, Scottie Scheffler was unable to recover from a slow start. He finished tied for 12th at the Genesis Invitational, which brought the run to an end.

During the streak, Scheffler recorded seven victories and did not finish worse than tied for eighth. 

In recent weeks, he had also worked his way into contention with a tie for third at the WM Phoenix Open and a tie for fourth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

This time, the rally did not come. And with that, the streak closed at 18. The 2025 Open Championship winner’s week at Riviera Country Club unfolded in phases.

He began the tournament with a setback, playing his first 10 holes on Thursday in 5-over par. However, he steadied himself and worked back into contention. On Friday, he made the cut on the number after converting a 7-foot par putt, entering the weekend at even par.

From there, he began to move up the leaderboard. He posted rounds of 66 on Saturday and 65 on Sunday to close the gap.

On the final hole, he faced a 21-foot birdie putt that would have moved him into the top 10 and extended his streak. The attempt stopped just short of the cup.

He ultimately finished tied for 12th at the Genesis Invitational. Even as the tournament concluded, discussion turned to whether the new season brought heightened expectations.

Scottie Scheffler Addresses Expectations Entering the New Season

After the 4th round, Scottie Scheffler was asked whether he felt added pressure entering the new season. He said his approach has not changed.

Scheffler explained to HITC that he does not focus heavily on setting long-term targets. Instead: “I wouldn't say that I'm super goal-oriented,” Scheffler said. “I always do my best to try to stay in the present, and I've been preparing to get ready for this event to start the season.”

Although Scheffler did not extend his streak, the week belonged to Jacob Bridgeman, who claimed his first PGA Tour win.

Jacob Bridgeman, the 26-year-old former Clemson player, closed at 18-under par (266) to win by one shot over Rory McIlroy and Kurt Kitayama.

He entered the final round with a six-shot advantage and at one stage stretched it to seven. 

However, the closing stretch tested him. He carded a 1-over 72 on Sunday but maintained enough of the lead to secure the win.
