Scottish Football Club's New Away Shirt Draws Inspiration From Golf

A football club in Scotland's Highland League has done something very unusual.

Nairn County FC has revealed its new away shirt for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons. The shirt includes maps of Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club as part of the design.

Fans can buy the shirt now from the club's website. It will also be available in the pro shops at both golf clubs and at Nairn County's Station Park.

"The golfing heritage of the town is well renowned, and we are very privileged to have two incredible golf courses in Nairn," said club chairman Kevin Reid. "Golf is such an important part of the identity of the town, and we felt this was a fantastic way to recognize that heritage."

Engraved on the shirt sleeves are the founding years of both clubs.

This follows Nairn County's earlier away shirts, which featured all the street names in the IV12 postcode area and designs inspired by the town's fishing and seaside history. Each shirt highlights a different part of Nairn's story.

Nairn has produced several well-known golfers, including Ladies European Tour player Kelsey MacDonald, Korn Ferry Tour golfer Sandy Scott, and his brother Callum Scott. Callum won the Silver Medal as the top amateur at The Open in Troon in 2024.

Russell Knox, a PGA Tour winner, was also a member at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club.

The golf clubs themselves welcomed the collaboration and what it represents beyond the fabric.

Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Back the Shirt as a Celebration of Community

Nairn Golf Club captain Robbie Bremner welcomed the partnership warmly.

"Nairn Golf Club and Nairn County go back a long way," he said. "So does our connection to the community that supports us both."

This partnership feels natural because the golf clubs and the football club are an important part of the same community. By putting the course maps on the away shirt, the club highlights those close connections.

In a town like Nairn, the same people, families, and generations support both the golf clubs and the football club. Nairn Dunbar Golf Club general manager John Forbes echoed that sentiment with equal enthusiasm.

"The display of the course maps on the shirt is a brilliant idea," he said, "and celebrates the importance of both golf clubs to the town of Nairn."

For many supporters, that will be exactly the point. This is not a sponsorship deal in the conventional sense.
