Sergio Garcia Addresses LIV Golf Questions, Reaffirms Long-Term Vision

The recent incidents related to LIV Golf doused its players and fans in speculations about the organisation's future. However, Sergio Garcia's comments provided some relief to all those concerned.

On 15 April, ahead of the LIV Golf Mexico's beginning, Garcia appeared in a press conference. Amid the ongoing rumors predicting complications in the future for LIV Golf, the 35-year-old's comments came in as a gust of positivity.

Garcia debunked the rumors, stating that LIV Golf authorities don't see any trouble in the company's future operations. He said, “No, honestly, we haven’t heard anything other than what Yasir told us at the beginning of the year. That he’s behind us, that they have a long-term project.”

The rumors about LIV Golf's future complications and even a shutdown started circulating after the Financial Times reported that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the organisation's chief financer, was about to cut its ties with the league.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the LIV Golf brass was also summoned to a meeting on April 15 in New York. However, nothing about this split has been confirmed to date.

Earlier this year, PIF unveiled a new strategy for the 2026-30 period. The main inference of the plan is to achieve sustainable value, maximize impact, and increase investment efficiency for LIV Golf.

Considering all this, Garcia didn't see any reason to take the rumors seriously. “And well, honestly, you know how these rumors are. There are always a lot of them. And I can’t tell you anything more than what we already know,” he added.

But while it appears that LIV Golf will continue, Saudi Arabia's PIF has a significant reason to cut ties with the league, if it does so at all.

LIV Golf Isn’t Yielding Expected Results

Saudi Arabia's PIF has funded close to $5bn into LIV, and its United Kingdom-based entity LIV Golf Ltd posted a £461.8m loss in 2024.  Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee had a bitter but direct response to the reports.

He wrote on X, "Given that the product was so ill-conceived and ended up being worse than anyone could have imagined – with shotgun starts, initially 54 holes, a team concept that was nothing but laughable and tournaments that meant and continue to mean nothing, and such a paltry number of viewers, losing billions along the way – would it surprise anyone if the Saudis came to their corrupted senses and finally euthanized the whole lame-brained tour,"

The performance of the LIV Golfers at this year’s Masters could be the final nail in the coffin. Bryson DeChambeau, who was picked as a pre-tournament favorite, failed to make the cut as John Rahm, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson struggled. Only Tyrrell Hatton put some respect on LIV Golf’s name by finishing T3.

Adding insult to injury, marquee players like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed left the league ahead of the 2026 season to go back to the PGA Tour, permanently casting a shadow of doubt on LIV Golf’s identity and future.

So, what do you think the future holds for LIV Golf? Let us know in the comments.
