Sergio Garcia’s Sunday morning at Augusta had nothing to do with the leaderboard. It was about a broken driver, torn-up turf, and a water cooler that didn’t make it past the second hole.

The 2017 Masters winner started the final round 16 shots behind and made a bogey on the first hole. Then, on the second tee, his shot went far right. While the ball was still in the air, Garcia damaged the Augusta property, hitting the ground twice in anger and tearing up the tee box.

He wasn’t done. Garcia walked to a water cooler near the tee and hit it hard with his driver, and the club head broke off. The impact snapped the club head and damaged the cooler.

Rick Golfs posted the clip on X the same evening: “Sergio Garcia is 46 years old, literally a middle-aged father. Still acts like a spoiled child. He’s lucky he has a lifetime exemption.”

The 46-year-old is playing this week because he won here in 2017. That win lets him play every year, even if he is not playing well. Since then, he has not finished in the top 10 at a major, not even once.

The online reaction was swift and critical. Golf writer Dylan Dethier caught it all and posted on X on April 12: "Sergio just took a chunk out of the tee box at No. 2, smashed the water cooler, broke the head off his driver. Now he's carrying Jon Rahm's bag down the fairway. Quite the start."

For those familiar with Garcia’s career, the outburst was a familiar sight.

Back in 2019, Garcia was disqualified from the Saudi International for bad behavior after he damaged the greens, a day after losing his temper in a bunker.

Then, in 2022, just weeks before joining LIV Golf, he got angry at a rules official at a PGA Tour event.

There was one light moment. At one point, Garcia picked up Jon Rahm’s bag and carried it down the fairway while Rahm’s caddie worked in a bunker. The crowd laughed, and Garcia smiled. Then the cameras showed what happened on the second tee.
