Signs of a Strained LIV Golf Exit Emerge as Brooks Koepka Seeks PGA Tour Return

Brooks Koepka stepped away from the Saudi-backed circuit on December 23. His representatives said he wished to spend more time at home.
“Brooks is focusing on his family and remaining closer to home,” said Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, describing the separation as mutual.
However, despite his departure from LIV Golf, Koepka intends to continue playing professional golf.
According to Mark Schlabach of ESPN, Koepka applied for reinstatement of his PGA Tour membership on Friday, three weeks after he departed from LIV Golf.
While Koepka left the PGA Tour in 2022 to join LIV Golf, the next steps towards the PGA Tour remain uncertain.
The tour has previously stated that players returning from LIV Golf would be required to remain inactive for at least one year following their most recent non-sanctioned event.
Koepka’s manager, Blake Smith, of Hambric Sports, said he had no comment at this time on Koepka’s PGA Tour rejoin.
With LIV Golf’s final 2025 event concluding on August 25, Koepka would not be eligible to compete on the PGA Tour until September.
Some individuals who previously criticized LIV Golf have reduced their opposition and appear open to players returning to the PGA Tour.

“They’ve made the money, but they’ve paid their consequence when you talk about their reputation and some of the things that they’ve lost by going over there,” Rory McIlroy said on The Overlap podcast released in January.
He further added that while the likes of Bryson DeChambeau made the overall tour stronger, which made him okay with it, it was not just about him. He acknowledges how everyone was not in the same position as him, and thus, the final decision ideally should be up to the collective PGA Tour group.
