“That Made My Whole Evening,” Njoroge Kibugu Recalls Justin Rose’s Unexpected Gesture

A moment that began with an eagle on the course turned into something more when Justin Rose reached out to Njoroge Kibugu.
Njoroge Kibugu is competing in the 2026 Magical Kenya Open at Karen Country Club, where he is the only Kenyan player to make the cut.
As the tournament moved into its final round on February 22, the 22-year-old remained in the field after holding his position across the first three rounds.
He opened with a 4-under-par 66 in the first round, recording five birdies to build early momentum.
In the second round, Kibugu carded a 1-under 69, but the defining moment came at the 18th hole, where he made an eagle to reach 5-under-par and secure his place for the weekend.
He later shot a 4-over 74 in the third round, bringing his total to 1-under-par and placing him tied for 67th entering the final round.
That eagle not only helped him secure his place for the weekend but also drew attention from the 13-time PGA Tour winner.
“My phone was going off. I saw Justin Rose commented on one of the posts, and that made my whole evening!” Kibugu said while speaking from the commentary booth on Saturday, recalling the reaction that followed his second-round finish, shared via DP World Tour on X.
The week adds to a stretch of results that have changed his position in the game.
