World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul faced a rare exit at the Chevron Championship as she failed to make the cut. After her recent win, she opened up about her unwavering mindset.
After rounds of 74 and 73, Thitikul stood at 3-over par at Memorial Park. Her hopes of winning her first major had once again faded away.
“Yeah. Obviously, I talked to my coach, and then I was like, You know what? I know golf wasn't your life. Golf is golf. But when you miss a cut or you're not hitting well, it's hard to act like you're okay on the same day. And then I was disappointed. I was upset to not be able to make the weekend at the first major. But obviously, I think still you have to accept and I have to move on,” said Thitikul.
Thitikul’s rival, Nelly Korda, went on to win the major and took her major tally to three. On top of that, she snatched the World No. 1 ranking from Thitikul and reached the top spot for the seventh time.
However, Thitikul pointed out that the “good thing” about golf is that there’s no lack of opportunities. A season consists of around 30 tournaments and provides a player ample scope to “reset” and “do it again.”
“And I think that's the only part that I think that no matter what the past is, the future is always waiting for you. And then that's the only thing that I'm trying to keep myself on the positive side to be able to perform in a good way, it seemed like this past week. And I mean, I'm just really happy to get the job done this week,” Thitikul added.
Remarkably, the 23-year-old successfully defended her Mizuho Americas Open title this weekend.
Thitikul’s Defense Of The Mizuho Americas Open Title
This weekend, Thitikul won her second title of the season. She had previously secured the Honda LPGA Thailand title back in mid-February.
The World No. 2 held a two-shot lead entering the final round. She finished with a score of 13-under par as she lifted the title.
Thitikul’s winning margin was four shots over China’s Ruoning Yin. New Jersey became the venue for her ninth career win.
With the U.S. Women's Open being held in less than a month, Thitikul will look to win her first major.
