Across his career, Woods has inspired millions. His résumé includes 15 major championships and 110 professional wins (including 82 PGA Tour victories, tied for the most all time). His dominance from the late 1990s into the 2000s made him the defining figure of modern golf.
Even after injuries, surgeries, and a serious 2021 car crash that left him with multiple leg fractures, his presence remains unmatched. Woods remains a singular figure whose presence moves people in ways he rarely anticipates. Jada Pinkett Smith was one of them.
During the filming of “A Round With Tiger: Celebrity Playing Lessons,” the series built around Woods interacting with well-known personalities, a surprising exchange revealed how deeply his 2019 Masters win resonated outside the world of golf.

The show captures Tiger offering instruction, conversation, and perspective, but in Pinkett Smith’s episode, the moment shifted toward how his comeback had quietly shaped her relationship with the sport.
She recalled the scene vividly. “Your last Masters that you won, Will calls me, he says, ‘Turn the TV on right now Tiger is about to make history’,” she told Woods. “So I turn the TV on and I’m watching, and you win. I just get so emotional just thinking about it. I’m like, ‘Tiger’s back! Like, he did it!’”
Woods listened with a shy smile, unsure how to process the intensity of her reaction. “See, I don’t see it that way,” he said, reflecting the humility with which he views even his most celebrated achievements.
Pinkett Smith explained the difference between living the moment and witnessing it. “I know you don’t, but you wouldn’t because it’s your journey,” she said. “But those of us who are looking on the outside, it’s amazing. So that day I said, ‘This game has something for me’. And that’s the day I started taking this game seriously.”
Woods looked genuinely surprised. “Seriously?” he asked.
The exchange captured a side of Tiger the series often highlights. Even after decades at the top, he rarely sees himself as an emotional catalyst. Yet his journey continues to pull new people into the sport, sometimes without him knowing, sometimes in deeply personal ways.
Pinkett Smith may be promoting her upcoming film projects today, but her golf origin story traces back to a moment Woods never thought about beyond winning. A single Master's victory reignited his career and, quietly, sparked someone else’s passion for the game.
Woods had no idea. His influence simply carried further than he realized.
