Four-time major champion Scottie Scheffler experienced an unexpected pause in his PGA TOUR schedule, not due to fatigue or an on-course injury, but because of a kitchen accident at home. The accident took place on Christmas Day in December 2024.
Scheffler later explained the incident that forced him to skip multiple events in January 2025 during a press conference ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, where he entered the week as the defending champion.
The injury occurred while he and his wife were attempting to make ravioli from scratch at a rental house that didn't have proper kitchen equipment. “We wanted to make them from scratch, so you’ve got to roll the dough, and you’ve got to cut the dough,” Scheffler said.”
So Scottie Scheffler used a wine glass to cut the dough, which led to the disaster. “[The wine glass] broke and the stem kind of got me in the hand,” he said as per Golf.com in January 2025. “It’s one of those deals where I can’t live in a bubble, got to live my life, and accidents happen.”

Although the bleeding was stopped quickly with the help of a surgeon friend, he later required surgery to remove small glass fragments from his palm. However, that wasn't enough to stop Scheffler from competing.

The injury forced Scheffler to withdraw from The Sentry, the season-opening event of the PGA TOUR, and later from The American Express, scheduled for mid-January in La Quinta, California. Medical guidance at the time estimated his recovery at three to four weeks, pushing his season debut further into the calendar.
After a delayed start to his season, Scottie dominated the opening rounds at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, by opening with 61–63 to reach 18-under through 36 holes, then never allowed the field within striking distance.
He closed at 31-under par, winning by eight shots to secure his first PGA TOUR victory of 2025 and tie the 72-hole scoring record.
