"There Was No Choice": Valderrama GM Explains LIV Golf Partnership Ahead of 2027 Deal

Valderrama did not choose LIV Golf because there were no other options, and the Valderrama general manager explained the reason.

Real Club Valderrama general manager Javier Reviriego told Flushing It Golf that the club partnered with LIV because no other tour could bring such top-level players to Spain.

"We wanted this quality of players, and there was no choice, really," Reviriego said.

A DP World Tour event would not pull the names LIV delivers. A PGA Tour stop in Spain was never on the table. For Valderrama, LIV was the only door open.

"These players, we would have never dreamed of having them here in a DP World Tour event," Reviriego said. "And we couldn't dream of bringing a PGA Tour event to Spain, because I don't think that was ever going to happen either."

The partnership has helped the event gain more attention. LIV Golf Andalucía is five weeks away, and preparations are already in progress. A large hospitality area has been built behind the 17th green. At Gibraltar Airport, there are also promotional signs for the event.

The rough is being thickened to increase the course's difficulty. Reviriego also said the club is considering changes to improve the course for future events.

"We're very happy," Reviriego said. "Happy to continue the relationship."

Their contract runs through 2027. Reviriego says they are looking to renew, and when the tournaments arrive, the competition itself will give fans plenty to watch.

Gooch Chases Third LIV Title as Rahm's Legion XIII Returns to Defend

Talor Gooch comes to Valderrama as a top player to beat. He has won the individual title here twice in three editions of the event.

He now seeks his third victory in four appearances at the Spanish course. A victory would strengthen his status as the dominant force of the LIV era at Valderrama.

Rahm is one of LIV Golf’s biggest stars, and his presence has made the event more popular around the world. The Valderrama course manager says LIV has helped the course gain global attention that it could not have reached before.

His contract with LIV Golf ends after the 2027 season, but from his comments, it is likely that he will continue working with them.
