Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's League Beat LIV Golf to an Untouched Yet Important Territory

TGL is expanding into the women’s game through a joint venture between the LPGA and TMRW Sports, founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley.

The announcement was made on Tuesday. WTGL is scheduled to begin play in the winter of the 2026–27 season.

In a statement, LPGA chief Craig Kessler said, "Partnering with [TGL organisers] TMRW Sports on WTGL reflects our belief that innovation can help the game reach new fans and create greater visibility for LPGA athletes."

WTGL is scheduled to launch next winter and will take place at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

While TGL has already announced its women’s league through the launch of WTGL, LIV Golf remains in an earlier phase.

In a July 1, 2025, post shared by NUCLR GOLF, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said, “I think in the next 2-3 years you'll see us enter women's golf, and fortunately on a platform of incredible investment by the kingdom and through Aramco and through Golf Saudi.”

However, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, the main investor in the men’s LIV Golf League, is involved in women’s golf through its sponsorship of the Ladies European Tour.

As the LPGA continues to broaden its reach under Kessler’s leadership, TGL has emerged as a parallel innovation within the sport.

What is TGL's next plan

TGL CEO Mike McCarley said he expects the league to develop into a platform with “multiple leagues” over the next decade.

McCarley indicated that future expansion could include additional niche or regional versions beyond the existing PGA and LPGA partnerships.

Leadership has also indicated interest in taking the TGL model into international markets, including the potential launch of a European team or league to stage events in other time zones and reach overseas audiences.

The men’s TGL is in its second season with six teams, and its financial structure is expanding as a seventh franchise, Motor City Golf Club in Detroit, is confirmed to join the league for the 2027 season.
