Tiger Woods Had Every Shot “On a String” at Golf’s Most Iconic Courses

Across his amateur and professional career, 15-time major champion Tiger Woods has competed on many courses around the world.

Yet when he reflects on where he felt the most control, he points to two venues in particular.

Speaking to Golf Channel on Feb. 28, he described one of those weeks this way:

“I could hit it to 50, 60 feet because I knew I was going to lag it down to a foot. You know, I just felt like everything was on a string from tee to green.”

It began at the Masters Tournament. At 21, Woods recovered from a 40 on his opening nine holes and played the remaining 63 holes in 22-under par.

He won by 12 strokes, set the 72-hole scoring mark at 270, and became the youngest champion in tournament history. He did not record a three-putt that week.

The margin surpassed the previous record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1965. The win also marked the first time a Black golfer claimed the title at Augusta National.

Three years later, at The Open Championship at St. Andrews, Tiger Woods produced another historic performance.

He finished at 19-under par, won by eight strokes, and at 24 became the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam. He was the only player to record all four rounds in the 60s and did not find a single bunker over 72 holes.

That win came after his 15-stroke victory at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and before his titles at the PGA Championship and the Masters Tournament. Together, those four major wins formed what became known as the “Tiger Slam.”

And his involvement in golf did not stop there. Beyond competition, Woods continues to contribute to the sport through leadership and ownership roles.

Tiger Woods, From Competitive Peak to a Different Role in the Game

82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods is a co-founder of Tomorrow’s Golf League and serves as captain of Jupiter Links GC.

However, he has not played in the 2026 season as he continues recovery from back and Achilles surgeries, including a disc replacement procedure in October 2025.

For now, his role is off the course. He has attended Jupiter Links GC matches at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens and taken part in broadcasts, offering analysis and support.

While he works back toward competition, the team lineup includes Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner.
