“Tiger’s Going to Think I’m an Idiot”: Pro Golfer Recalls Meeting Tiger Woods

The 2021 Porsche European Open winner has faced pressure on tour before, but nothing prepared him for the 2017 Dubai Desert Classic.
Recalling the moment, Armitage said, “Tiger's going to think I'm an idiot.”
While playing during the tournament, Marcus Armitage was out on the course with Sam Walker. Walker pointed out a man walking near the 8th hole and told Armitage it was Joe LaCava, the longtime caddie for Tiger Woods.
At first, Armitage did not believe him. However, when Joe LaCava Woods caddie walked onto the tee, Armitage asked him when Woods would arrive.
“So anyway, Joe LaCava walks on the tee, I said, ‘Hey Joe, when’s the big cat getting here?’ Straight away, I’m about Tiger, and he’s like, ‘Well, he’s [Tiger Woods] due to be here at 10 past 12.’” Which led Armitage to wait on the range.
When Woods finally walked onto the range, Armitage rushed over, and in the rush of the moment, he dropped the golf balls instead of placing them down, which caused them to roll across the range and hit Tiger Woods’ heels.
This was not the only moment when Armitage had an awkward yet amusing encounter with Tiger Woods at the 2017 Dubai Desert Classic
Marcus Armitage got Tiger Woods to sign a souvenir while he was still wearing it
During the 2017 Dubai Desert Classic, Marcus Armitage met Tiger Woods and took the opportunity to secure a signed keepsake.
Following their exchange, Armitage brought a golf glove and the shirt he was wearing and asked Woods to sign them.
When Armitage encountered Woods, he explained, “I wore a red shirt at the Desert Classic. His Nike red shirt.”
Woods agreed and signed it while Armitage was still wearing it. “I’ve got it framed at home, and it’s got, I got him to sign it here.” Armitage also asked for photographs.
