Travis Smyth’s Late Eagle Secures Biggest Win and Boosts LIV Golf Chances

Despite having multiple tour victories in his career, Travis Smyth has always expressed his desire to be a part of LIV Golf.
It has always been one of his goals, which would set him up financially. Moreover, Smyth plays on The Asian Tour and The International Series, which provide a direct pathway for golfers to qualify for LIV Golf.
On the 5th of April, Smyth won The International Series Japan on the Asian Tour and cemented a strong hold on his LIV Golf dream. He eagled the last hole to finish with a round 8 under par 64, winning by 1 shot.
“That’s what dreams are made of right there,” said Smyth about his closing putt.
Smyth has been in sensational form this season. Just a few weeks earlier, he won the ISPS Handa Japan-Australia Championship, propelling him to the top of both the Asian Tour Order of Merit and the International Series Rankings.
The 31-year-old has secured two wins and three further top-five finishes this year, that includes NZ Open and Quinovic NZ PGA Championship as well.
Smyth’s spot at The Open Championship in July is guaranteed as well. He also won the PGA Tour of Australasia OOM in March and earned a DP World Tour card for 2027.
"I've had a hard time trying to win tournaments. People don't understand how hard it is to win, you know. Like it's such a mind game with yourself out there.”
Smyth trailed Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert and Japan's Ryosuke Kinoshita by one shot on the final tee. A birdie would’ve forced a playoff, but Smyth outdid that to secure the biggest title of his career.
Smyth expressed the doubts he faced during his poor run of form earlier, but was glad that he was able to turn a corner.
Travis Smyth Expressed His Desire for LIV Golf
“Getting onto LIV Golf is a big goal, and achieving that would truly change my life financially. I honestly call these events ‘our majors’ because they mean the most to us," Travis Smyth said.
In January 2026, Smyth competed in the LIV Golf Promotions event at Black Diamond Ranch but did not secure one of the three available full-season cards.
“My main goal is to advance to LIV Golf through the opportunities the Asian Tour and The International Series provide,” he said. “That’s the dream — and I’m giving it everything I’ve got.”
Smyth has always kept LIV Golf as his professional focus.
He did play in its inaugural season back in 2022, but never secured a full-time contract. Ever since, he has been playing on the Asian Tour, and is aiming to qualify for LIV Golf through it.
