Collin Morikawa has been facing a lingering medical issue that has kept him from being at his best. Now, all he wants is to find some consistency.
Morikawa looked to be at the top of his game in February, when he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. However, a back injury at the Players Championship ruined his momentum.
“I left the PGA Championship uncomfortable in a way,” he said. “I’ve been grinding this kind of back injury since The Players. It still hadn’t felt that comfortable. So, it was nice to take a full reset,” said Morikawa, according to Bunkered.

He also said he's still trying to rebuild trust in his swing, but feels he's moving in the right direction and is encouraged by the progress he's made.
“There’s still a trust factor that I’m looking for that I’m trying to find this week, I think, going into tomorrow and into next week essentially. But it’s a lot better of a swing than I’ve been putting on and, for me, that’s a positive thing,” he added.
At TPC Sawgrass, Morikawa injured his lower back after a practice swing. Following that, he withdrew from the Texas Open and the Truist Championship.
The two-time major champion returned to Augusta but still had not recovered fully. Since then, he has featured at three events.
Moreover, Morikawa withdrew from the Memorial Tournament to welcome his first child. That time away with his family provided him with a much-needed shift in mindset.
Despite the injury struggles, Morikawa has put up decent performances throughout the season.
How Morikawa Has Performed Through The Injuries
Morikawa started the season strong with his win at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also put on impressive performances at The Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational, finishing T7 and 5th, respectively.
Following the withdrawal from the THE PLAYERS Championship, the 29-year-old fought through the back injury and has put up some commendable performances.
At Augusta, Morikawa recorded a 9-under par score to secure a tie for 7th finish. A week later, at Hilton Head, he registered another top-10 finish, ending up tied for 4th.
However, he struggled at the Cadillac Championship and the PGA Championship, finishing outside the top-50.
Now, after becoming a new father, Morikawa will head into the RBC Canadian Open and the U.S Open, looking to build some consistency.
