Tyrrell Hatton has found a strange pattern in his 2026 LIV Golf season. His results are wildly inconsistent. Now, heading into the Masters, he joked that another bad week might be exactly what he needs to compete at Augusta.

Speaking during the LIV Golf South Africa press conference on Tuesday, Tyrrell Hatton reflected on that run and delivered a remark about his form ahead of Augusta:

“Yeah, it's been somewhat of an inconsistent start for me. Obviously not a great week in Riyadh, where we -- I think I was 47th maybe, and then the following week finished tied third, and Hong Kong was 45th and last week was 10th.”

Hatton’s 2026 LIV Golf season reflects a mix of results, with his best finish being a tied third at Adelaide, while across four events, he stands 13th in the individual standings. His results have a pattern across tournaments, with finishes of 47th in Riyadh, tied third in Adelaide, tied 45th in Hong Kong, and tied 10th in Singapore.

That's why he joked, “Maybe I'll play terrible this week and then play good at the Masters if I'm sort of on the odds-and-evens theme. Either way, I'll try my best, and hopefully we can have a good week.”

He continues to play for Legion XIII under Jon Rahm, with the team placing inside the top four in each of the first four events this season, even with Hatton's string of mixed results.

As for the remark about performing poorly next week, that might just come true. Starting March 19, Tyrrell Hatton will compete at LIV Golf South Africa this week, marking the league’s first event in Africa.

The tournament will be held at The Club at Steyn City in Johannesburg, where he is set to represent Legion XIII alongside Jon Rahm, Tom McKibbin, and Caleb Surratt. The only silver lining here is that McKibbin has played in South Africa before, but even then, it looks like a tough task for Hatton.

However, even with that outlook, he kept his expectations measured.

Tyrrell Hatton Sets a Positive Outlook for the Week

The 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner added, keeping his focus on the week ahead, “I’ll try my best, and hopefully we can have a good week.”

Tyrrell Hatton has secured his place at the 2026 Masters through his finish at the 2025 U.S. Open and his position inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, where he stands 27th.

At the same time, his recent record at Augusta National shows a steady run, with top-15 finishes in each of his last two starts, including a tied 9th in 2024 and a tied 14th in 2025, along with earlier appearances where he made the cut and recorded finishes inside the top 35.
