US President Donald Trump Sends a Message After Rory McIlroy's Masters Win

Apr 13, 2026, 3:43 AM CUT

Rory McIlroy just made history at the Masters, and a message from Donald Trump is getting all the attention. The POTUS reacted to McIlroy's second consecutive win and had nothing but praise.

“Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another Great Championship, The Masters! He performed tremendously under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday.

McIlroy finished the tournament at 12-under-par to claim the Green Jacket for the second year in a row at Augusta National Golf Club.

He started the final round tied at 11-under with Cameron Young. An early double-bogey on the 4th hole set him back, but he recovered with birdies on the 12th and 13th to move ahead.

From there, the Irish player held his position and closed the round at 12-under, which left two-time Masters winner Scottie Scheffler at 11-under, one stroke behind.

The result placed McIlroy alongside Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as players with consecutive Masters wins.

“With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND! I look forward to watching him compete in two weeks at Doral,” shared the President.

Rory McIlroy is set to compete at the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral from April 30, a tournament Donald Trump said he is looking forward to.

The win earned McIlroy $4.5 million from a $22.5 million purse, adding another major achievement to his record.

Donald Trump broadens praise from Rory McIlroy to the entire Masters field

“The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary, each and every one of them. They should all be proud of the way they played at The Masters this weekend! President DONALD J.TRUMP,” shared the 79-year-old.

While Rory McIlroy’s win drew attention, the 2026 field also produced key moments across the week. McIlroy became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2002 to defend the Masters title.

At the same time, Justin Rose moved into a two-shot lead after the front nine in the final round before settling into a tie for third.

Elsewhere, Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young each recorded rounds of 65, the lowest scores of the tournament. And during the third round, Shane Lowry added to the week with his second career hole-in-one at Augusta.

Do you think Rory McIlroy’s latest Masters win cements his legacy among golf’s all-time greats?
