The par-3 14th hole at the RBC Canadian Open is known as "The Rink" and is famous for bringing hockey to the PGA Tour. On Sunday, Wyndham Clark decided to pull off one of the most memorable wardrobe audibles of the season.
Wyndham Clark wanted a Jack Hughes Team USA hockey jersey for the Rink hole. He could not find one online. So he bought one off a stranger in the crowd, and wore it into one of the louder moments of the week.
Clark explained the story in a video on X, posted by golf analyst Chris McKee. "Yesterday, on one of the holes, I see a guy wearing a Jack Hughes USA jersey. So I finished, I walk straight up to him and say, is there any way I could buy your jersey and wear it tomorrow?" Clark said.
"And he goes, hell yeah. So he met me after the round, paid for it, got his address, I'm going to ship it back to him."
The 32-year-old American golfer took off the jersey before hitting his tee shot. The Canadian fans booed him, but he responded by hitting his tee shot to about four feet from the hole. He then made the birdie putt.
After the shot, he put the jersey back on and wore it as he walked to the green. The Canadian fans kept booing as he prepared for his birdie putt. After making the putt, Clark tipped his cap and saluted the crowd.
He entered Sunday's final round at the RBC Canadian Open in second place at 11-under.
Clark made noise with a hockey jersey on the 14th tee, but what he did with a golf club for the rest of the day is worth a closer look.
Wyndham Clark In Third Round at the RBC Canadian Open: How Saturday Unfolded
Clark shot a 63 on Saturday at TPC Toronto. He made seven birdies and did not make a single bogey during the round.
He made a birdie on the 14th hole while wearing the jersey, then added two more birdies on the 15th and 18th holes. He finished the day at 11-under-par.
Clark is the 2023 U.S. Open champion and a four-time PGA Tour winner. His win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson came three weeks before the RBC Canadian Open. He spoke about Saturday's scorecard after the round.
"It wasn't my sharpest from the fairways with my iron game, but I drove it pretty good and made the putts I needed to make," he said. "I kind of got into a rhythm the last six, seven holes."
He entered the day six shots back and addressed his position heading into Sunday.
"I really just wanted a chance on Sunday. I know the weather's going to be tough, so it's going to be a grind. You never know. So I really just wanted to put myself in position and move up the leaderboard," he said.
Do you think Wyndham Clark's Rink Hole moment was all good fun, or did he go too far with the Canadian crowd? Let us know in the comments.
