PGA Tour Pro Was Urged to Resign Like Patrick Reed Before Playing in LIV Golf, but He Said No

Wesley Bryan drew a line in the sand when PGA Tour officials presented him with a decision that could have ended his professional golf career.
The PGA Tour handed Bryan a suspension after his appearance in LIV Duels, a YouTube scramble event.
"Yeah, the option was presented to resign the membership, but again, all I've ever wanted to do as a kid was to compete on the PGA Tour," Bryan said in a YouTube interview with Dan on Golf on February 3, 2026, discussing his situation.
Bryan had earned something many golfers never achieve: a lifetime PGA Tour membership through tournament victories.

Bryan refused to resign from the PGA Tour. Because of that, he still technically has his Tour card and lifetime membership status, but he is suspended.
"I earned my PGA Tour lifetime membership through winning on the PGA Tour, and I'm not I don't want to give that up just to compete in a YouTube scramble," he explained.
In February 2022, Reed gave up his PGA Tour membership before officially joining LIV Golf. By doing this, he avoided being suspended and was able to control how his exit looked.
While Reed left for a guaranteed deal reportedly worth more than $100 million, Bryan only took part in a one-time content event.
That means he can’t play in PGA Tour events, leaving him stuck, unable to compete.

This wasn’t Bryan’s first issue with PGA Tour officials over his YouTube videos. The Tour has rejected his requests several times to film content at events for his channel.
That has been frustrating for Bryan, especially because his videos reach a large audience and help engage fans.
Bryson DeChambeau has shown that a golfer can succeed both as a top professional and a YouTube creator. His channel has grown fast, gaining millions of subscribers and attracting people who don’t usually watch golf on TV.
DeChambeau's Break 100 series and collaboration videos have earned tens of millions of views, helping expand the sport's reach beyond traditional TV audiences.
